Spotlight on a 2022-2023 Award Recipient from The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle

press release: 1/19/2023

Ajay Goncalves is one of this year’s hard-working awardees of The Scholarship Fund of Concord and Carlisle. He is a first year student at Union College in Schenectady, NY majoring in History. This past fall he enjoyed a smooth transition to campus and academic life.

While in high school Ajay spent a lot of time at the Boys and Girls Club of Boston as a volunteer supporting and mentoring middle school aged kids and as a recreation assistant active in wrestling, football, track and lacrosse. He loved his CCHS history classes and plans to become a high school history teacher. He says that learning about the past is how you change the future.

Ajay is proud of the personal growth he achieved in high school including time management which has allowed him to be able to do well in his Union classes and at the same time to participate in extracurricular activities and sports like volleyball and flag football. And at Union, he has become a fan of their Division 1 Men’s and Women’s Hockey teams.

Ajay is getting trained to work in the writing center at Union, assisting peers with essays and papers. This spring he’s excited to participate in Springfest, a music festival at the College.

The Trustees were pleased to be able to support Ajay with The Adrian A. Martinez Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established to honor the life of Adrian Martinez, a 2002 CCHS graduate who had academic skills and a passion for distance running.
